St. Mary's County BCI Police Reports


LEONARDTOWN, Md. (Sept. 9, 2009) - The St. Mary's County Bureau of Criminal Investigations (BCI) recently released the following incident and arrest reports. BCI is an investigative team comprised of detectives from the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office and the Maryland State Police, Leonardtown Barrack. The unit was established on July 1, 2003 and is based in Leonardtown.

HOME INVASION: BCI detectives are investigating a reported burglary and shooting which occurred on September 8 at approximately 11:30 pm. Deputies from the sheriff's office responded to Iverson Drive in California for the 911 call. The 26-year-old male resident reported that he was home alone when he encountered the suspect, described as a black male, 5'10" to 6' tall, in his 30's, standing on his stairs. The suspect was holding the victim's own handgun and a struggle ensued. The suspect shot the victim in his arm and then fled. The victim was treated at St. Mary's Hospital and later released.

ROBBERY SUSPECT ARRESTED: BCI detectives investigating the June 8 robbery of the 7-11 in Charlotte Hall, where the suspect placed his hand under his shirt and demanded money from the clerk, arrested James W. Burke, 24 years of age, from Mechanicsville on September 7. He was charged with robbery and incarcerated at the St. Mary's County Detention Center.

THEFT, BURGLARY SUSPECT ARRESTED: BCI detectives investigating thefts from vehicles and burglaries, which occurred during July and August in Hollywood and Leonardtown, arrested a 17-year-old male juvenile from Hollywood on September 3. He was charged with 1st Degree Burglary, Theft Scheme, 9 counts of Rogue and Vagabond, 7 counts of Theft and 2 counts of Attempted Theft. Additional charges are pending and the juvenile was released to the Department of Juvenile Services.

SEX OFFENDER WANTED: On August 27 during St. Mary's County sex offender weekly compliance checks, detectives determined John Andrew Talley moved from his residence located in Leonardtown on or about August 10 and refuses to disclose his whereabouts. Talley is a convicted child sex offender. Detectives have a warrant for Talley charging him with Failure to Notify the Sex Offender Registry of a Change of Address. He is described as a white male, 30 years of age, 6' tall, 175 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.
