National Capital Area ACLU Director to Speak June 25 at SMCM


John Barnes, Executive Director, American Civil Liberties Union for the National Capital AreaLEONARDTOWN, Md. (June 21, 2009)—John Barnes, Executive Director, American Civil Liberties Union for the National Capital Area, will be the keynote speaker at a Community Awareness Event hosted by the St. Mary's County Human Relations Commission, on June 25 at 7 p.m. at the Cole Cinema at St. Mary's College. Admission is free.

Barnes will be addressing the "Impact of President Barack Obama on Civil Rights during his first 200 Days."

Barnes is a former Congressional Legislative Counsel and Chief of Staff, former Political Director for D.C. Mayor Sharon Pratt Kelly, and former Law Professor, Georgetown Law Center.

The Human Relations Commission of St. Mary's County was formed to encourage and ensure equal treatment to all, without regard to race, color, religion, ethical or moral conviction, ancestry or national origin, sex, age, marital status or physical or mental handicap, in compliance with applicable federal, state and local laws or regulations in the areas of housing, employment and public accommodations.
