So. Md. Businesses Cited for Pesticide Law Violations


ANNAPOLIS, MD (Nov. 25, 2008) – The Maryland Department of Agriculture (MDA) Pesticide Regulation Section reported the following enforcement activity against southern Maryland businesses between Jan. 25 and Oct. 31, 2008.

Arrow American Pest & Termite Control LLC, La Plata – On May 12, MDA received payment of a $100 civil penalty assessed against the company and Bonnie Morris for failing to provide customer information as required.

AARCO Termite Control, Lusby – On May 13, MDA received payment of a $325 civil penalty assessed for record keeping violations.

Action Exterminator Company Inc., Prince Frederick – On May 16, MDA received payment of a $200 civil penalty assessed for record keeping and pesticide storage violations.

Angel Systems Inc., Great Mills – On May 16, MDA received payment of a $100 civil penalty assessed against the company and Andrews Angel for record keeping violations and failure to provide a customer with complete pesticide information as required.

In 2008, MDA’s Pesticide Regulation Inspectors conducted more than 1,400 inspections resulting in 541 businesses and/or individuals being cited for violations of the Pesticide Applicator’s Law and Regulations. Additionally, MDA’s Pesticide Section cited 31 pest control businesses for operating without a license, investigated 54 consumer complaints and assessed 29 civil penalties totaling $12,840.
