SHA Begins Acceleration Lane Project along MD 2/4 near Huntingtown

(October 15, 2008) – The Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) recently began a $345,000 safety and intersection improvement project along MD 2/4 (Solomons Island Road) between MD 524 (Old Town Road) and Walnut Creek Road in Calvert County. SHA will construct an auxiliary/acceleration lane to improve intersection operations.

Weather permitting, the project will be completed by the beginning of December.

The new lane, on the right side along southbound MD 2/4, will provide additional capacity for traffic leaving the Walnut Creek subdivision to accelerate prior to merging into southbound MD 2/4 traffic.

SHA awarded the contract to Francis O. Day of Rockville.

Citizens who have questions about this project or other projects or traffic operations along State-numbered highways in Calvert, Charles, St. Mary’s or Anne Arundel Counties may call SHA’s District 5 Office at 410-841-1000 or toll-free at 1-800-331-5603.
