Board of Education plans forum on next proposed high school

The Board of Education of Charles County has planned a question and answer forum about the next new high school, planned for Piney Church Road in Waldorf, on Monday, Oct. 27, from 7 - 9 p.m. at Mary B. Neal Elementary School.

The session will focus exclusively on the next proposed high school and is open for county residents to come and have questions answered about the school, the building process and plans.

Westlake stadium dedication planned in memory of Dr. John Cox

Westlake High School plans to dedicate its stadium in memory of its first principal, Dr. John H. Cox. A dedication ceremony for the Dr. John H. Cox Stadium is set for Thursday, Oct. 16, at 6 p.m.

During his 37-year career with the Charles County Public Schools, Cox served as the assistant superintendent of instruction, high school and middle school principal, vice principal, teacher and coach. He was appointed principal at Westlake in 1992 and was essential in the opening of the school.

He served as principal at Westlake until 1997 when he was chosen as an assistant superintendent. He passed away on Oct. 1, 2007.

The dedication is open to the public.
