Charles County Sheriff's Reports


LA PLATA, Md. (Sept. 11, 2008) - The Charles County Sheriff's Department today released the following incident and arrest reports.

FIRST DEGREE ASSAULT: On September 10 at 9 p.m., Charles County Sheriff's officers responded to the 6100 block of Bivens Place in La Plata for the report of shots fired. Upon arrival, the victim - a 51 year old man - said the suspect, Kelvin Harvey Johnson, 45, of La Plata, pointed a shotgun at him and threatened to shoot him. Johnson fled the residence and fired a shot in a nearby wooded area. Officers located Johnson and recovered a loaded shotgun. Johnson was charged with first degree assault and remanded to the Charles County Detention Center. Officer D. Brady handled the arrest.

HATE CRIME, VANDALISM: On September 10 at 8:15 a.m., Charles County Sheriff's officers responded to the 2300 block of Knotweed Court in Waldorf for the report of a hate crime/vandalism. Investigation revealed the suspect spray painted a racial slur on the side of the residence. Further investigation revealed that someone spray painted profanity on the garage door of another home in the 8800 block of Cottongrass Street. Officer E. Weaver is investigating.
