MSP Reports for Calvert County


PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. (July 31, 2008) - The Prince Frederick Barrack of the Maryland State Police (MSP) today released the following incident and arrest reports.

BURGLARY, DESTRUCTION OF PROPERTY: On 7/28/2008 at approximately 7:00 pm, Trooper B. Laziuck responded to the 7600 block of Old Bayside Road, Chesapeake Beach in reference to a burglary. Upon arrival, Trooper Laziuck observed a racial slur written on the side of the residence and damage to the front door. The unknown suspect(s) stole two computers and damaged the interior of the residence. The racial slur on the side of the residence was written in what appeared to be black ink from a pen. The investigation has been turned over to CIT and is on-going.

THEFT (-$500.00): On 07/17/08 at 1525 hours, Lt. H. Rich was dispatched to Dunkirk Market Safeway located at 10276 Southern Maryland Blvd., Dunkirk for the report of a theft. Investigation revealed that a white male (later identified as Arthur Owens, 41, of Chesapeake Beach) had attempted to steal $149.18 worth of groceries. When stopped and asked for a receipt, Owens fled on foot and was later seen entering a red Ford pickup. Owens was later arrested and charged with theft.

THEFT (+$500.00): On July 29, 2008 at 0932 hours, Trooper R. Lewis and TFC B. Stein were dispatched to 1958 5th Street, Owings for the report of a theft. Investigation revealed that sometime between 2000 hours on 7/28/08 and the early morning hours of 7/29/08, an unknown culprit stole a Briggs and Stratton gas powered generator valued at $1,200.00. MALICIOUS DESTRUCTION OF PROPERTY: On 7/26/08 at 0700 hours, TFC M. Murphy was dispatched to 1010 Golden West Way, Lusby for the report of destruction of property. Investigation revealed that between the hours of 1:00 am and 7:00 am, unknown suspects slashed the tires and shattered windows out of eight vehicles parked in driveways on Golden West Way. MALICIOUS DESTRUCTION OF PROPERTY: On 7/26/2008 at 0608 hours, TFC K. Greggs was dispatched to the Benedict Bridge house, west bound Maryland Route 231, Prince Frederick for the report of destruction of property. Investigation revealed an unknown suspect shattered a sliding glass window out of the bridge house with a soda can. Anyone with information is asked to contact TFC Greggs at 410-535-1400.

DUI, RESISTING ARREST: On 07/26/2008 at 0032 hours, in the area of the Thomas Johnson Bridge, Tpr. Donaldson stopped a green Honda Accord for speed violations. Upon making contact with the driver (later identified as Yonas Alemu, age 36 of Lexington Park), Trooper Donaldson detected the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage. After Trooper Donaldson determined that Alemu had been driving under the influence of alcohol, he ordered Alemu to place his hands behind his back and that he was under arrest. Alemu became uncooperative and resisted the officer. Once in custody, Alemu was transported to the Calvert County Detention Center pending bond review.

ILLEGAL DRUGS: On 7/25/08 at 2015 hours, in the area of the Thomas Johnson Bridge, Solomons TFC Dawson and Trooper M. Parker stopped a 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt for speed violations. Upon contacting the driver, (later identified as Michael Christopher Tucker, 18 of Annapolis), the troopers detected the odor of burnt marijuana and asked Tucker to step out of the vehicle. While speaking with Tucker about the odor of marijuana, Tucker informed the troopers he had a "bong" in his vehicle. Tucker re-entered his vehicle, retrieved a back pack containing a bong, a bag of marijuana and a marijuana grinder. Tucker was placed under arrest for possession of marijuana and transported to the Calvert County Detention Center pending a bond review.
