MSP Reports for Charles County


LA PLATA, Md. (May 07, 2008) - The La Plata Barrack of the Maryland State Police (MSP) recently released the following incident and arrest reports.

ILLEGAL DRUGS: On May 2, 2008, at approximately 7:45 P.M., Corporal T. Quade stopped James Timothy Gray Jr., age 18, of Waldorf, for a traffic violation on St. Charles Parkway, north of St. Mark's Drive. Corporal Quade noticed a baggie containing pills on the front seat. Gray was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance of schedule II, to wit 4 Percocet pills.

ELUDING POLICE RESULTS IN CRASH: On May 3, 2008, at approximately 2:01 a.m., Trooper J. Wilson was patrolling Crain Highway when he attempted to stop Jonathan Nathaniel Robinson, age 18, of Washington D.C. for a traffic violation. Robinson attempted to elude Trooper Wilson, traveled up an embankment, went air borne, overturned, and traveled 350 feet before coming to rest on it’s roof in the intersection of Crain Highway and Mattawoman Drive. The three passengers, Shade Shantaw Kelly, age 18, Monique Loreal Walton, age 18, and Tamika Avis Speight, age 18, all of Washington D.C. sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Robinson was transported by helicopter to Prince George’s Trauma Center. Robinson was charged with reckless endangerment and unauthorized use.

DUI, ILLEGAL DRUGS: On May 4, 2008, at approximately 7:49 p.m., TFC R. Lemerise was on routine patrol, northbound Route 210, at Chapmans Landing Road when he stopped Richard Joseph Bercier, age 54, of Indian Head, for a traffic violation. Search incident to arrest revealed a baggie containing suspected marijuana. Bercier was charged with DUI, possession of a controlled dangerous substance, and paraphernalia.

DUI, ILLEGAL DRUGS: On May 4, 2008, at approximately 8:13 p.m., Corporal T. Quade was on routine patrol traveling southbound Maryland Route 301, south of Smallwood Drive when he stopped Michael Wayne Kelly, age 51, of White Plains, for a traffic violation. A search incident to arrest revealed two rolled marijuana cigarettes. Kelly was charged with DUI and possession of controlled dangerous substance marijuana.

DUI, ILLEGAL DRUGS: On May 6, 2008, at approximately 1:26 a.m., Trooper W. Posey was on routine patrol traveling northbound U. S. Route 301, south of Smallwood Drive when he stooped Joe Nathan Springfield Jr., age 37, of Alexander, Va., for a traffic violation. A search of Springfield revealed a plastic baggie containing suspected marijuana. Springfield was charged with DUI, possession of a controlled dangerous substance and drug paraphernalia.

ILLEGAL DRUGS: On May 6, 2008, at approximately 6:45 p.m., Trooper W. Posey was on routine patrol on northbound U.S. Route 301, north of Maryland Route 228 when he observed a disabled vehicle. Upon his arrival and contact with the vehicle he smelled the odor of marijuana. Trooper Posey was contact by one of the occupants and was advised that they were having car trouble and the other occupants were at Checkers restaurant waiting for help to arrive. A vehicle arrived at Checkers to pick up the occupants. Trooper Posey asked the Charles County Sheriff Deputy to detain the occupants. When the Sheriff Deputy approached one of the occupants, attempted to flee the scene. The subject Jermaine Devon Thomas, age 28, of Hughesville, was taken to the ground, suspected marijuana fell from his pocket, and he was arrested for possession of a controlled dangerous substance schedule I and II, to wit: marijuana and crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia.
