St. Mary's County Sheriff's Reports


LEONARDTOWN, Md. (Feb. 24, 2008) - The St. Mary's County Sheriff's Department recently released the following incident and arrest reports.

THEFT FROM EMPLOYER: On February 19, BCI detectives arrested Robert Earl Thompson, 18, of Mechanicsville, and charged him with one count of theft over $500 and one count of theft under $500. The charges were a result of an investigation into thefts which occurred on January 19 and 20, at the Charlotte Hall Carwash. Detectives determined that while employed at the carwash, Thompson had stolen money on both occasions. He was incarcerated at the St. Mary's County Detention Center.

BARRICADE: On February 22, at approximately 11:00 a.m., the Sheriff's Office responded to a residence in Mechanicsville for a report of a domestic disturbance between a mother and her adult son. Prior to arrival the sheriff's deputies received information the son, 29, of Mechanicsville, fled the scene to another residence on Pocahontas Drive in Mechanicsville. Family members were concerned for the subject's welfare and initial reports received indicated he was distraught and maybe armed with a rifle.

Sheriff's deputies responded to Pocahontas Drive, discovered the subject's vehicle and set a perimeter around the residence. The Sheriff's Office received conflicting reports as to the subject exact location so residents of Pocahontas Drive were evacuated. Additional residences on neighboring streets surrounding Pocahontas Drive were notified of the emergency situation via Code Red Reverse 911 Notification.

Initial attempts to contact the subject were unsuccessful and members the St. Mary's County Emergency Services Team and Critical Incident Response Team were called to respond. The St. Mary's County Emergency Services Team secured the scene and surrounding areas and the Critical Incident Response Team was able to establish telephone contact with the subject. The subject surrendered peacefully shortly after a dialogue was established with the crisis negotiators.

The subject was transported to St. Mary's Hospital for an emergency evaluation.
