HUGHESVILLE, Md. (Jan. 23, 2008)—SMECO employees recently donated $18,367.40 to the nonprofit community organization Alternatives for Youth and Families. The money will support the agency's programs for Southern Maryland residents.

SMECO employees collected the money through several fund-raising efforts during the year, including a charity golf tournament and food sales at the Annual Members' Meeting. The Co-op selects a different charity each year to benefit from employee contributions.
