LA PLATA, Md. (Jan. 14, 2008) - The Charles County Sheriff's Department today released the following incident and arrest reports.

ASSAULT ON POLICE: On Jan. 13 at 1:40 a.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to the parking lot of Rednecks Saloon and Grill located at 4680 Crain Highway in White Plains for the report of a fight. Upon arrival, officers observed a small crowd in the parking lot. The accused, later identified as Michael Francis Johnson, 29, of Waldorf, was acting disorderly, yelling obscenities and attempting to start a fight. When Officer J. Clagett attempted to intervene, Johnson struck Officer Clagett. Johnson continued acting aggressively and Officer Clagett subsequently deployed his taser, immediately immobilizing Johnson. Johnson was arrested and charged with second-degree assault, disorderly conduct and failure to obey a lawful order. He was being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before a district court commissioner.

ASSAULT: On Jan. 9 at 7:30 p.m., Charles County Sheriff’s Officer D. Brady responded to the La Plata District Station to serve a juvenile arrest warrant. While serving the warrant, the juvenile, a 17-year-old Waldorf girl, became disorderly and kicked the officer. The juvenile was charged with assaulting a police officer in addition to being served the warrant. She was being held at the Waxters Juvenile Facility pending further action by the Department of Juvenile Services.

WARRANT SWEEP: The Charles County Sheriff’s Office served 12 arrest warrants between 5 a.m. and 1 p.m. Jan. 9 during a warrant operation conducted in Prince George’s County. Officers from the Sheriff’s Office’s Warrant/Fugitive and Child Support Enforcement units conducted the mini-sweep with assistance from the Maryland State Police La Plata Barrack. In addition to the warrants, two detainers for wanted individuals already incarcerated in Prince George’s County were obtained. Nine of the warrants were for criminal offenses and three were for child support violations.
