MARBURY, Md. - The Charles County Commissioners announced today that the Bassmaster Elite Series Tournament will return to Charles County again this year. Known as The Capital Clash, this stop of the National tour will take place at Smallwood State Park, Marbury, Maryland, August 9-12, 2007, with over 200 professional and amateur anglers competing for a prize purse that totals nearly $11 million.
This year, Charles County is providing additional activities and entertainment for spectators in conjunction with the fishing tournament. The inaugural BASS BASH will take place on Saturday August 11, 2007, at Smallwood State Park while the fishing pros are out on the water. The BASS BASH is an arts and entertainment festival for the whole family. Local radio personalities will broadcast live. Art displays and vendors from Mattawoman Creek Arts Center and The Charles County Arts Alliance will be on hand. There will be food for sale. The Maryland Department of Natural Resources will provide educational programs, and kids can enter a coloring contest. Admission to the State Park is $3.00 per person.
The day also features live music with two great shows at the Main Stage. From Noon to 1 pm, singer/guitarist John OLoughlin performs a mix of Country Classics, Honky-Tonk, and Celtic favorites. From 1 to 2:30 p.m., singer/songwriter Jeff Miller, who has just released his debut album, will take the stage with his acoustic-rock sound.
