H.S. Student Takes Seat on St. Mary's Board Of Education

LEONARDTOWN, Md. (July 5, 2007) - Leonardtown High School senior, Mr. Praveen Ramaswamy, has taken his seat as the 2007-2008 Student Member of the Board of Education of St. Mary's County.

The selection of Ramaswamy was made after each student candidate participated in an interview with public secondary school student leaders representing the St. Mary's Association of Student Councils (SMASC). The selection process also included submission of an application, letters of recommendations, and a speech delivered to the student leaders.

Ramaswamy is active in many student organizations at Leonardtown High and in the community. He is a member of the student council, Interact Club, Tutoring Our Peers (TOP), National Honor Society, Model Congress, Model United Nations, and is the co-founder of the St. Mary's Indian Youth Organization.

Ramaswamy replaces Leonardtown High graduate Brittany Thurston whose term ended on June 30, 2007.
