Charles County Sheriff's Reports: Robbery

LA PLATA, Md. - The Charles County Sheriff's Department today released the following incident and arrest reports.

ROBBERY: On May 4 at 8:53 p.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to the Smallwood Park and Ride on Smallwood Drive West in Waldorf for the report of a robbery. Investigation revealed a 36-year-old Waldorf man was approached by two male suspects who demanded a lighter from him and threatened him when he said he did not have one. Other people began to surround the victim and the two suspects assaulted him. The victim managed to get away from the suspects and ask a nearby bus driver to call the police. However, as the victim was walking away, the suspects took his bag.

Officers arrived and quickly apprehended the suspects, who were identified as Alphonso Olajadae Cutler, 19, of Waldorf and Mark Joseph Wallace, 20, of Waldorf. Shortly after the arrests were made, Cutler attempted to flee by running across Route 301 while in handcuffs but officers apprehended him in a parking lot after a brief foot pursuit.

Cutler and Wallace were arrested and charged with robbery and theft valued at more than $500. Cutler was also charged with second-degree escape and second-degree assault. They were being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before a district court commissioner. Officer J. Cooney investigated.
