On Tuesday, April, 24 at approximately 6 p.m. police units responded to the area of the playground on Suburban Drive in Lexington Park for the report of numerous gunshots. Upon arriving, officers determined that a gunfight had taken place and requested the St. Mary's County Bureau of Criminal Investigations (BCI) respond to assume the investigation.

BCI investigators determined that three vehicles drove onto Suburban Drive in Lexington Park, to the area of the playground, which was occupied by approximately nine children. Approximately ten suspects exited the vehicles and began firing shotguns and handguns at five people who were in the area of a residence on Suburban Drive.
