Annual Tiki Bar Opening Results in 23 Arrests

SOLOMONS, Md. – According to the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office, this year’s annual Tiki Bar opening netted 3 arrests for Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) and 20 non-DWI arrests. The sixteen arrests on Friday and four arrests on Saturday were for charges ranging from disorderly to failure to obey a police officer to resisting arrest. There were zero complaints or arrests for destruction of property.

Lt. Ricky Thomas of the Sheriff's Office estimated that there were between eight and ten thousand revelers on Friday and slightly less than that on Saturday.

Thirty-nine members of the Sheriff’s Office patrolled the entire island each day, assisted by 20 troopers of the Maryland State Police Prince Frederick Barrack. Members of the Park Police and Natural Resources Police also patrolled the area.
