LA PLATA, Md. - The Charles County Sheriff’s Office says they issued 53 citations to motorists who were speeding in the Hughesville bypass construction area during a two-day operation this week.
The Traffic Operations Unit conducted the speed enforcement initiative on March 20 and 21. The new area of the Hughesville bypass is still 40-mph and is marked by signs indicating it is a work zone where fines are doubled.
The Sheriff’s Office says officers will continue to monitor the area for speeders.
