MSP Reports for Charles County


LA PLATA, Md. - The La Plata Barrack of the Maryland State Police (MSP) today released the following incident and arrest report.

On March 14, 2007, at 10:33 a.m., Trooper J. Wiersma was on routine patrol traveling southbound on U.S. Route 301, north of Turkey Hill Road, La Plata. He observed a green Honda Civic bearing Pennsylvania registration traveling in front of him. Trooper Wiersma paced the vehicle from behind at 60 mph in a posted 55 mph speed zone. Further observation revealed the vehicle failed to drive right of the center intermittent line on two separate times.

Trooper Wiersma initiated a traffic stop and contact was made with the driver, who was identified by his Pennsylvania license as Keith Allen Myers, 34 years, Glenville, Pennsylvania. Upon making contact, Trooper Wiersma detected a moderate odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from Myers breath. His eyes were glassy, and his speech was slurred.

The driver was asked to step out of his vehicle to perform a set of Standardized Field Sobriety Tests. Before conducting the tests, Trooper Wiersma performed a pat down of the driver for his safety, which revealed a clear sandwich baggie containing suspected CDS marijuana and a CDS smoking pipe, which was located in Myers jeans pocket. Sobriety field test were continued and performed unsatisfactorily.

A search incident to arrest revealed one sandwich baggie containing suspected CDS Marijuana which was located between the driver’s seat and the center console. Myers was placed under arrested and was taken to the Charles County Detention Center pending a bond review.

Myers was charged with the following: DUI, Possession of Marijuana and Possession of CDS paraphernalia.
