Man Charged For Falsely Reporting 2006 Waldorf Shooting

LA PLATA, Md. - The Charles County Sheriff’ Office has charged a 20-year-old Waldorf man with falsely reporting a shooting in 2006.

Officers responded to Civista Medical Center in La Plata on Dec. 26, 2006 at 1:01 a.m. for the report of a man being treated there for a gunshot wound. The man was identified as Jonathan Lemar Robertson. Robertson told officers he was shot by an unknown suspect at a gas station in Waldorf.

The Major Crimes Unit of the Sheriff’s Office began investigating the report and discovered Robertson had been in Prince George’s County the evening of Dec. 25, 2006, gained possession of a handgun, and shot himself in the leg. He then drove himself to the hospital and made the false report.

On Feb. 19, 2007, the Sheriff’s Office obtained a criminal summons charging Robertson with providing a false statement to a police officer. The summons was served on Feb. 27.

Det. J. Elliott of the Major Crimes Unit investigated.
