Charles County: Handgun at School; Drugs


LA PLATA, Md. - The Charles County Sheriff's Department today released the following incident and arrest reports.

HANDGUN POSSESSION AT SCHOOL: On Feb. 22 at 8:45 a.m., Officer P. Hood, the Charles County Sheriff’s Office’s juvenile resource officer assigned to Thomas Stone High School, located at 3795 Leonardtown Road in Waldorf, learned from the school’s vice principal that a student was in possession of a handgun. Officer Hood confronted the student, Francis Earl Young, Jr., 16, of Waldorf, and recovered a handgun from the student’s waistband. The gun, which was not loaded, was reported stolen on April 2, 2002 from a residence in Waldorf. Young was charged as an adult with possession of a stolen firearm, carrying a concealed deadly weapon and carrying a concealed deadly weapon on school property. He was transported to the Charles County Detention Center and released on his personal recognizance. The school’s principal sent a letter home that afternoon with students to inform parents of the incident. Officer Hood is investigating.

DRUG POSSESSION: On Feb. 21 at 7:38 a.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to a residence in the 7400 block of Elena Drive in Bryans Road for the report of a domestic dispute. Darius Troy Posey, 41, who lives at the residence, reported his girlfriend was throwing his personal belongings out of the house. During the investigation, officers discovered Posey was in possession of crack cocaine and three smoking devices. Posey was arrested and charged with possession of cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before a district court commissioner.
