Checkers Robbery Was An Inside Job; Arrest Made in WaWa Robbery


LEONARDTOWN, Md. - Police announced today that they made two arrests in the robbery of the Checkers restaurant that occurred on Dec. 28, 2006. One of the men was an on-duty employee and the other was a former employee. Police also made an arrest in the Feb. 4 robbery of the Lexington Park WaWa.

On February 16, detectives from the St. Mary's County Bureau of Criminal Investigations (BCI) arrested Javarus M. Swales, 20, from Great Mills and Demetrick N. Maddox, 19, from Great Mills. Both were charged with armed robbery, 1st degree assault and theft for the December 28th armed robbery of the Checkers Restaurant in California. At the time of the robbery Swales was an on duty Checkers employee and Maddox was a former employee. Both are incarcerated in the County Detention Center.

On February 17, detectives from BCI arrested Anthony G. Queen Jr., 16, from Great Mills and charged him with armed robbery, theft and first degree assault for the February 4 robbery of the Wawa in Lexington Park. At the time of the robbery the juvenile utilized a handgun to obtain money from the employees and fled the area. He is currently charged as an adult and incarcerated in the County Detention Center.
