LA PLATA, Md. - The Charles County Sheriff's Department today released the following incident and arrest report.

On Feb. 12 at 12:32 a.m., Officer A. Celia stopped a Chevrolet Lumina on Leonardtown Road near Pika Drive in Waldorf for a traffic violation. During the traffic stop, the driver was identified as Arnando Montay Davis, 23, of Washington, D.C.

When Officer E. Scuderi arrived on the scene to assist, he opened the driver’s door and ordered the driver out of the vehicle. The driver drove away, dragging the officer a short distance. The officers returned to their cruisers and pursued Davis, who soon after crashed into a traffic light pole at the intersection of Leonardtown Road and Post Office Road. Davis attempted to flee on foot but Officer Scuderi, Officer M. Smith, and Sgt. J. Budd apprehended him.

Davis was arrested and a subsequent search of his vehicle revealed he was in possession of a loaded semi-automatic handgun, marijuana, and four cell phones. Investigation revealed the handgun had been reported stolen in Prince George’s County on March 4, 2003.

Davis was charged with assaulting a law enforcement officer, theft valued at more than $500, having a handgun in his vehicle, possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession of marijuana, resisting arrest, fleeing and eluding, and several other traffic charges. He was being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before a district court commissioner.
