Robber Sinks to New Low in Indian Head

INDIAN HEAD, Md. - Criminals who are besieging Charles County again proved that they know no boundaries when a man assaulted an octogenarian while robbing him.

According to the Charles County Sheriff’s Department, on Jan. 2 at 6:15 p.m., officers responded to Thrifty Wash located at 4360 Indian Head Highway in Indian Head for a report of an assault in progress. The officer's investigation revealed the victim, a 83-year-old Indian Head man, was placing money in a safe when a man emerged from the closet and assaulted him. The suspect punched the victim, knocked him to the floor, stole an undisclosed amount of cash, and fled the scene.

The victim provided officers with a description of the suspect. A Maryland State Police trooper shortly thereafter located the suspect behind the business. The trooper attempted to arrest the suspect, but the man resisted. Officer M. Smith responded to assist the trooper. Both officers were able to place the man in custody.

The suspect was subsequently identified as Michael Anthony Dodson, 45, of Indian Head. He was charged with robbery and second-degree assault. Dodson was being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before the district court commissioner.

The victim sustained injuries and was transported by ambulance to Fort Washington Medical Center. Officer Smith investigated.
