Charles Police Nab Fleeing Thieves


WALDORF, Md. - According to the Charles County Sheriff’s Department, on Nov. 16 at 11 a.m., officers responded to Linens & Things located at 3241 Plaza Drive in Waldorf for the report of a theft.

By the time the officers had arrived, the suspects had fled the scene. A description of their vehicle was broadcast to other patrol officers.

Officer D. Baker observed the vehicle traveling south on Crain Highway and attempted to stop it. The driver fled south and turned onto Hawthorne Road in La Plata at which point officers discontinued their pursuit.

A Maryland State Police trooper located the vehicle a short time later in the Hunters Brooke subdivision.

The suspects were apprehended and positively identified by witnesses as being involved in the theft. The driver, Andre Gray, 44, and his passenger, Michael Gray, 45, both of Washington, D.C., were arrested. A subsequent search revealed they were in possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Officers determined through their investigation that both suspects were also involved in a theft from Pier One Imports on Plaza Drive the previous day.

They were charged with theft valued at more than $500, two counts of theft valued at less than $100, two counts of possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Andre Gray was also charged by the Maryland State Police with numerous traffic violations.

They were being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before the district court commissioner.
