Charles County Sheriff's Reports: School Bus Crash, Theft


SCHOOL BUS CRASH: On Sept. 6 at 2:35 p.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to Leonardtown Road and Olivers Shop Road in Bryantown for the report of a school bus crash. Investigation revealed Charles County School Bus #126 operated by Delois Frances Smith, 71, of Clinton was attempting to merge onto the southbound left turn lane of Leonardtown Road. The bus sideswiped a 1993 Ford 350 van operated by John Thomas Bardell, 55, of Crownsville, Md., and a 2005 Mazda passenger car operated by Bryan Christopher Towers, 36, of Hughesville. Bardell, Smith and the 24 children on the bus were uninjured. Towers sustained minor injuries but refused medical treatment. His passenger, Sheryl Marie Towers, 34, of Hughesville, was not injured. Officer R. Williams of the Traffic Operations Unit is investigating.

THEFT: Sometime between 10 a.m. Sept. 3 and 7:30 a.m. Sept. 4, suspect(s) forced entry into a vehicle in the 4300 block of Eagle Court in Waldorf. The suspect(s) stole property from the vehicle valued at less than $500. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Charles County Sheriff’s Office at 301-932-7777. Officer R. Kimble is investigating.
