Investigation revealed a tree fell on a Toyota Highlander traveling north on Penns Hill Road, crushing the windshield and roof of the vehicle. The Highlander left the roadway, struck a fence and came to rest in a ditch. The driver, Leann Douglas Keech, 34, of La Plata, sustained serious injuries and was transported by ambulance to Civista Medical Center. Keechs children, ages 2 and 4, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were also transported to Civista Medical Center. They were in child safety seats in the middle of the vehicle. It appears weather is the main factor, with moderate rain and 20 to 30 mph winds at the time of the crash. Speed is not a factor. Officer R. Taylor, Jr., of the Traffic Operations Unit is investigating.
