Charles County Sheriff's Reports

RESISTING ARREST: On Aug. 5 at 2:40 a.m., Officer K. Evans conducted a traffic stop on a speeding vehicle at St. Charles Parkway and St. Ignatius Drive in Waldorf. Officer Evans and Officer C. Shaw ordered the driver several times to exit the vehicle; he refused and put his seatbelt back on. After a brief struggle, officers removed him from the vehicle. He was arrested and identified as Anthony Wesley Petty, 22, of Waldorf. In a search subsequent to arrest, officers found a large machete under the driver’s seat. Petty was charged with carrying a weapon, failure to obey a lawful order and resisting arrest. He was being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before the district court commissioner. Officer K. Evans investigated.

THEFT: Sometime between 11 p.m. July 31 and 6:30 a.m. Aug. 1, suspect(s) stole a gray and black 2003 Polaris Predator four-wheeler with red trim from a residence in the 8300 block of Hawthorne Road in La Plata. The four-wheeler was for sale and chained to the front porch handrail of the residence. The suspect(s) cut the chain with an unknown object. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Charles County Sheriff’s Office at 301-932-2222. Officer C. Caldwell is investigating.

POSSESSION OF CHILD PORNOGRAPHY: In October 2005, the Charles County Sheriff’s Office received information that Terence Ralph Huffman, 40, of Indian Head was in possession of child pornography. Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Division initiated an investigation into the matter. During the investigation, a search warrant was obtained for Huffman’s residence. When the search warrant was executed, detectives located and seized a large amount of property including computers and associated equipment, which was transported to the Prince George’s County Police Computer Forensic Lab. Specialists there determined the equipment was used by Huffman to view and store videos and images of child pornography, which appear to have been downloaded from the Internet.

Terence Huffman was arrested on July 18 and charged with 20 counts of possession of child pornography, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was released from the Charles County Detention Center on a $25,000 bond. Huffman has coached youth sports teams for Charles County Department of Community Services, however, none of the children on the teams appeared in the pornographic images. Detectives are not aware of any additional victims but are asking anyone with additional information about Huffman and/or this investigation to contact Det. D.C. Kelly at 301-609-6507.
