Weekend Update Regarding Ongoing Search for Philip Merrill


ANNAPOLIS— The Maryland Natural Resources Police (NRP) will continue their ongoing search for Philip Merrill who was reported missing Saturday, June 10, after his sailboat was found near Breezy Point in Calvert County.

This weekend, there will be four NRP boats utilized in the recovery mission:

* 3 NRP boats are conducting surface searches; and,

* 1 NRP boat is conducting a side-scan sonar search.

There are also a number of civilian volunteers conducting surface searches, including representatives from the Chesapeake Bay Foundation.

Additionally, aviation units from the NRP and Anne Arundel County Police Department will be utilized through the weekend. NRP helicopter will conduct two flights and Anne Arundel County Police Department will conduct one flight per day.

The NRP have stated that they will continue their recovery efforts until Merrill’s body is recovered. The Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has also indicated that it will release information as it becomes available.
