SMECO Board Candidates Nominated

The 2006 Board Nominating Committee for Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative (SMECO) met on May 13 and chose candidates for the five available seats up for election on SMECO's Board of Directors. In addition to nominations made by the Nominating Committee, any 15 or more members acting together may make other nominations by petition prior to July 1, 2006.

The list of nominations follows:

Charles County
Victor B. Allen
Shelby L. Bowles (by petition)
Fern G. Brown
Kenneth L. Dyson

St. Mary's County
Samuel "Bo" Bailey, Jr.
W. Rayner Blair III
George "Mike" Thompson

SMECO customer-members will elect five directors to serve three-year terms and will vote for one Board seat for Calvert County, two seats for Charles County, and two seats in St. Mary's County. No seats are up for election in Prince George's County this year.

Members may vote in person at the 2006 Members' Annual Meeting on Wednesday, August 30, 2006, at SMECO's Hughesville Headquarters. Mail-in ballots are also available to members who wish to vote but cannot attend the meeting. To request a mail-in ballot, call 301-274-4480 or visit the Co-op's Web site at Requests must be made by August 21; completed ballots must be received by August 29.
