Two Assaults in Charles County


ASSAULT: On May 14 at 10:03 p.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to a residence in the 9700 block of Orland Park Road in Newburg for the report of an assault. Investigation revealed the accused, Riley Thomas Christmas, Jr., 30, of Newburg, got into an argument with another man at the residence. Christmas went to his residence, retrieved a handgun and returned to the residence. A third man, 43, of Newburg, who lives at the residence saw Christmas with the handgun and attempted to intervene. He reached out to grab the handgun and was shot in the hand. It caused a minor injury and he refused medical treatment. Christmas was arrested and charged with first and second degree assault and is being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before the District Court Commissioner. ASSAULT: On May 13 at 12:05 a.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to a parking lot in the 2400 block of Lake Drive in Waldorf for the report of an assault. Investigation revealed the victim, a 23-year-old Waldorf man was sitting in his vehicle when he was approached by a male brandishing a handgun. The suspect opened the victim’s vehicle door and ordered him not to move. The victim placed the car in gear, pulled away and the suspect shot the victim in the arm with what is believed to be a BB gun. The suspect fled the area in a vehicle. The victim was treated for minor injury. The suspect is described as a black male with bushy hair. He is 5 feet 7 inches tall and about 35 years old and was wearing black shorts and a white t-shirt. The suspect vehicle is described as a cream colored vehicle, possibly a Lincoln with a vinyl top. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Charles County Sheriff’s Office at 301-932-7777. Officer A. St. Germain is investigating.
