St. Mary's County Sheriff's Reports


January 28, 2006 Dfc. Connelly was patrolling the area of Point Lookout Rd and Foley Mattingly Rd in Mechanicsville. He stopped a vehicle being operated with only one headlight. The driver was identified as Shawn Michael Kovacic, 23 years of age, of Mechanicsville. Dfc. Connelly observed a metal socket in the center cup holder. The passenger handed the item to Dfc. Connelly and the socket was confirmed to contain marijuana residue. On seizing the paraphernalia a further search of the vehicle was conducted. In the center console of the vehicle was a multicolored glass smoking device. The smoking devices were recovered and Dfc. Connelly applied for charges on the driver. May 13, 2006, Dep. Christopher Byrd charged Shawn Michael Kovacic by Criminal Summons with Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Paraphernalia. Shawn Michael Kovacic was released pending a Preliminary Inquiry in District Court.

May 13, 2006 deputies responded to 22780 Laurel Glen Rd. in California for a reported disturbance. On arrival Dfc. Christopher Morley and other deputies on the scene learned that a gun had been used in an assault at the location. A .25 caliber handgun was recovered. Dfc. Morley arrested Dominique Latrell Jordan, age 19, of Patuxent River, MD. He was charged with two counts of Assault 1st Degree, 2 counts of Assault 2nd Degree and one count of Wearing a Handgun on his Person. Dominique Latrell Jordan is hald at the St. Mary's County Detention Center on a $20,000 cash bond.

May 14, 2006 at approximately 1:50 p.m. deputies responded to a residence in Patuxent Homes, Lexington Park, MD. A juvenile male, the victims' son had pointed a handgun at the victim's and told them he was going to kill them. The suspect was arrested by Dfc. Brian Connelly without incident. A petition request was completed charging two counts of First Degree Assault. He was placed in the custody of juvenile authorities pending a hearing.

May 14, 2006 at approximately 2127 hours a citizen driving passed the Lexington Park Exxon on Great Mills Rd. at FDR Blvd, Lexington Park, and reported seeing a suspect entering the business through a window. Deputies arrived on the scene and surrounded the business. A short time later the suspect was observed moving inside the business. Apprehended inside was Ronald Joseph Strain, age 40 of no fixed address. The suspect had thrown a car battery through a window and stood on a trash can to access the window. Ronald Joseph Strain was charged with Property Destruction under $500.00 and 2nd Degree Burglary. He is held at St. Mary's County Detention Center pending a bond review.
