LA PLATA, MD - The Charles County Commissioners announce that they will conduct a public hearing on the proposed Fiscal Year 2007 General Fund, Water and Sewer Fund, Solid Waste Fund, and Operating Budgets, proposed increases to certain County fees, rates, and charges, and the requested 2007-2011 Capital Improvement Budget on Monday, May 8, 2006, beginning at 4 p.m. in the Commissioners' Meeting Room on the Charles County Government Building.
The agenda includes an overview by Interim County Administrator Roy E. Hancock of the proposed FY 2007 revenues, operating and capital budgets, and proposed fees and charges, followed by a question and answer session.
The following agencies will give presentations on their respective budgets:
* 4:30 p.m.: Sheriff's Office/Corrections, by Sheriff Frederick E. Davis
* 4:45 p.m.: Library, by Emily Ferren, Director
* 5 p.m.: College of Southern Maryland, by Dr. Elaine Ryan
* 5:15 p.m.: State's Attorney's Office, by Leonard Collins
* 5:30 p.m.: Board of Education, by Board of Education Chairman Collins Bailey
Citizens wishing to make oral or written comments are encouraged to attend the hearing. Those individuals or representatives of groups wishing to speak must sign in. Speaker sign up will begin at 3:30 p.m., one half hour before the hearing, and will end when the hearing begins. Each speaker will be allotted three minutes. Public statements and comments will be heard following the agency presentations. Written comments may be submitted in lieu of oral testimony, or to expand upon oral testimony.
Copies of the requested operating and capital budgets and the proposed increases to certain fees, rates, and charges are available during normal business hours in the Department of Fiscal Services, located on the first floor of the County Government Building.
