Woman Arrested for Reckless Endangerment of 10-Y/O


BCI Detectives, in conjunction with the Department of Child Protective Services, conducted an investigation into a potential dangerous inhalant exposure. Information was received that Suspect Marie Jeanne Sandy (Age 19 of Mechanicsville) was caring for two juveniles ages ten (10) and eleven (11) at a home in Mechanicsville. Suspect Sandy encouraged the juvenile to use an inhalant (Isobutyl Nitrate) known as “Rush”. The ten (10) year old inhaled the substance and later felt the effects of the substance as intense headache and facial redness. Detectives conducted a search warrant on Suspect Sandy’s home and evidence was recovered. The use of inhalants can cause a variety of health issue including sudden death. Suspect Sandy was charged with two (2) counts of Reckless Endangerment through the District Court Commissioner.

The St. Mary’s County Bureau of Criminal Investigations is an investigative team comprised of Detectives from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office and the Maryland State Police, Leonardtown Barrack. The unit was established on July 1, 2003 and is based in Leonardtown, Maryland.
