Murder-Suicide in Waldorf

On Feb. 22 at 6:32 p.m., Charles County Sheriff's officers responded to a residence in the 4700 block of Rookewood Place in Waldorf for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers found a man and a woman deceased in the kitchen from gunshot wounds. The homeowner, who is a relative of the deceased woman, arrived home and notified police after finding the deceased. Detectives with the Criminal Investigations Division responded to the scene and their initial investigation has revealed the woman, Safiyah Yasmeen Rashid, 25, and the man, who has not been identified, were dating and had been living at the residence. They were apparently involved in an altercation when the man shot Rashid several times and then shot himself. The identity of the man has not been released to the public pending notification of his next of kin.

Rashid and the unidentified man were transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for autopsies.

Victim Services responded to the scene to assist family members.
