Mechanicsville Man Rear-Ends Amish Buggy Seriously Injures 60-Y/O and Child


On February 15, 2006, at approximately 0813, Timothy Michael Donais, age 32, of Mechanicsville, MD. was operating his 2000 Ford Explorer northbound on Thompson Corner road approximately one mile North of Bethel Church Road when he struck the rear of a northbound Horse drawn buggy. The buggy was being operated by Mary Z. Hostetler, age 60, of Charlotte Hall, Maryland. Mrs. Hostetler's 12 year old granddaughter was a passenger in the buggy.

The buggy, constructed of wood, fiberglass, and metal was destroyed. The horse was injured and taken to a nearby farm to be cared for until the owner could make disposition. Mrs. Hostetler and her granddaughter were flown to Med Star and Children's Hospital for treatment of their serious injuries. The accident is still under investigation and no charges have been placed at this time by the investigating officers SDFC Gene Hill and SDFC Emory Johnson.
