18-year-old Waldorf Woman Stabbed at Waldorf Checkers

On Jan. 28 at 11:07 a.m., Charles County Sheriff's officers responded to Checkers at 3002 Leonardtown Road in Waldorf for a report of an assault in progress. Officers arrived on the scene immediately after the call was dispatched and discovered the victim, an 18-year-old Waldorf woman, had been stabbed multiple times in the upper body and two bystanders had detained the suspect. Officers took the suspect, Alphonso Walter King, 21, of Waldorf, into custody immediately and without incident. A Maryland State Police helicopter flew the victim to Prince George's Hospital Center, where she is said to be in critical but stable condition.

Detectives responded to the scene and their investigation has revealed the victim and the accused, who had a previous relationship, were having an argument in the parking lot when the accused brandished a knife and stabbed her. Detectives charged King with attempted murder, first degree assault and other charges. He is being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before the district court commissioner. Detectives also interviewed several witnesses who were at the fast-food restaurant, none of whom were injured during the incident.

Det. J. Elliott is investigating.
