St. Mary's County Planning Commission Seeks Citizen Input for Lexington Park Zoning

On November 1, 2005, the St. Mary's County Board of County Commissioners adopted a Master Plan for the Lexington Park Development District, a principal component guiding the location and design of land development. To implement the Plan, the County will update the zoning in the Lexington Park Development District as directed by the new Plan. The process begins with a review of the current zoning by the Planning Commission, and the preparation of amendments to the official zoning maps.

This undertaking will be an opportunity for land owners or any interested person to make requests for rezoning for properties within the Lexington Park Development District (zoning on properties outside of the Development District will not be considered at this time). The requests will be individually evaluated by the Planning Commission and recommended to the Board of County Commissioners for approval or denial.

While the public is invited to participate throughout the entire zoning update process, the Planning Commission encourages rezoning requests to be submitted by March 1, 2006. The County will then conduct public hearings on the recommended new zoning.
