On Dec. 1 at 7:40 p.m., Charles County Sheriff's officers responded to a residence in the 4400 block of Eagle Court in Waldorf for the burglary report. Investigation revealed Barry Conrad Smith, 17, James Ellworth Fletcher III, 18, and a 15-year-old boy, all of Waldorf, and six or eight other males entered the home and assaulted a 20-year-old Waldorf man with their fists and a pipe or pole. They also assaulted a 19-year-old Indian Head woman and a 10-year-old Waldorf boy. The group then fled.

The victims were not seriously injured. Officers apprehended the three identified suspects and charged them with first degree assault, first degree burglary, three counts of second degree assault and destruction of property more than $500. Smith and Fletcher are being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending appearance before the District Court Commissioner. The boy is being held at the Cheltenham Youth Facility. Officer D.
