Beer Swigging Teen Causes 5-Car Accident


On Sept. 28 at 7:22 p.m., four vehicles were stopped at the traffic signal on westbound Western Parkway at the intersection of Plaza Drive. A Ford pick up truck driven by Daniel Joseph Ickes, 19, of Waldorf, struck the fourth vehicle in the line, a 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier. The Cavalier struck a 2003 Ford pick up truck, which struck a Sheriff's Office cruiser, which struck a 2005 Toyota SUV.

When officers responded to the scene to investigate, a passerby reported seeing Ickes throw something out of the window of his truck immediately after the crash. Officers found the object, a beer can. Officers charged Ickes with driving under the influence of alcohol, having an open container of alcohol, reckless driving and littering. Ickes was not injured.

The driver of the Cavalier, Tara Lee Terry, 26, of La Plata, and her passengers, Steven Lee Terry, 20, and three children, ages 2, 5 and 6, were not injured.

The driver of the 2003 Ford pick up truck, a 17-year-old Charlotte Hall girl, sustained minor injuries; Emergency medical services personnel treated her on the scene. Her passenger, Jared Everett Xavier Clark, 19, of Waldorf, was not injured.

The driver of the cruiser, Officer K. Clark, and the driver of the Toyota SUV, Gary Sylvester Ashley, 34, of Waldorf, were also not injured.
