Punk's Getaway Foiled by Stop Sticks

On Aug. 25 at 12:53 a.m., Officer E. Baker observed a suspicious vehicle parked in a parking lot in the 2500 block of Crain Highway in Waldorf. Officer Baker approached the vehicle and after a brief conversation, the driver drove away, nearly striking the officer. Officers pursued the vehicle and deployed stop sticks, which the vehicle struck before continuing into Prince George's County. The vehicle stopped on Livingston Road, just off of Indian Head Highway, where officers apprehended the occupants of the vehicle. The driver was identified as James Arthur Jones, III, 19, of Fort Washington. Jones was arrested without incident and charged with first- and second-degree assault, false statement to a police officer, reckless driving, failure to drive on right side of roadway, speeding, negligent driving and fleeing and eluding. He is being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before the District Court Commissioner. The passenger in the vehicle was not arrested.
