Clearwater police officers responded to the report of a suspicious person. When they identified that person as Harbin and found he was wanted in Charles County for the rape, they arrested him on the warrant. He is being held in the Pinellas County Jail pending extradition to Charles County.

Charles County detectives obtained the warrant for Harbin, 30, of no fixed address, July 3 after he was identified as the suspect in a rape that occurred at 9:30 p.m. July 2.

Officers responded to Berry Road near Trumpeter Court in Waldorf July 2 at 9:30 p.m. for the report of the rape. Investigation revealed the victim, a 39-year-old Waldorf woman, was leaving the Hamilton Center II in the 3200 block of Old Washington Road in Waldorf when Harbin approached her and sexually assaulted her. Harbin then forced the victim to drive him and his dog to the intersection of Berry Road and Trumpeter Court, where he exited the vehicle and fled into the woods. The victim then ran to the roadway, where a citizen stopped and called police. The victim was transported to Civista Medical Center.

Det. G. Draheim is investigating.
