Shoot 'em Up at Monks Inn; Deputies Capture Suspect By Calling His Cellphone


On 06/18/05 at 0050 hours a fight with shots fired was broadcast at Monks Inn, RT. 5 in St. Inigoes. DFC Eric S. Walker, Deputy Jay Kirkner and Deputy Shawn Cathcart arrived on the scene a short time later and verified that there had been a fight and a shot had been fired.

DFC Walker's investigation revealed that several groups of people were inside Monks when a fight started.  As they made their way outside, a suspect went to his vehicle obtained a handgun and fired a round into the air.

DFC Walker's investigation revealed that the suspect, later identified as Bryant Alexander Harris, 23 of Lexington Park had become involved in an altercation inside Monk's Inn. When he went outside the crowd followed him, he obtained a handgun from his vehicle and fired a round into the air. He was transported away from the scene by a friend.

The investigation revealed that the suspect may have been hiding in a nearby cornfield. DFC Fleenor an his K-9 partner Roni responded an attempted to track the suspect. Trooper 7 was also called and responded to assist from the air.

Deputy Cathcart, while processing the suspect vehicle, located several items from the handgun and a cellular phone. The phone was answered and the suspect agreed to meet the officers at the Hermanville Mobile station. He was met there by DFC Walker and DFC Fleenor and taken into custody.

DFC Walker obtained a possible location of the handgun. At approximately 0730 hours DFC Michael Labanowski, Deputy Shaun Carberry and Corporal Jeffrey L. McLane responded to 235 Hermanville and conducted the search. During the search the handgun and a loaded magazine were recovered. Harris was subsequently charged with Reckless Endangerment and incarcerated pending a bond hearing.
