The Board of County Commissioners and the Department of Recreation, Parks and Community Services invite the public to the Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for Chaptico Park on Saturday, April 30, 2005. Light refreshments will be served at 10:00 a.m., ceremony begins at 10:30 a.m.
The new park includes a nine-field soccer complex and practice areas, a restroom/concession building and parking areas. The park will also include a BMX bicycle track, which is currently being constructed by Southern Maryland BMX, Inc., and is expected to open later this spring. Also, an accessible playground will be installed at the park within the next few months.
"The addition of this new park will provide additional athletic fields and other recreational amenities that are very important to our citizens in the northern end of the County. We are especially pleased with the public * private partnership that has resulted in the construction of a BMX bicycle track at the park," said Thomas F. McKay, President, Board of County Commissioners.
The new park is located at 26600 Budd's Creek Road, on Route 234, between the communities of Chaptico and Wicomico Shores. Residents of Golden Beach, Charlotte Hall and Mechanicsville may access the park from Route 5 to either route 236 or Mechanicsville Road to Route 234. A park sign marks the entrance to the facility.
