St. Mary's County Government is currently issuing energy tax refunds to eligible residents. Approximately 2,000 refunds are issued annually between December and February. To date, the County has issued refunds to 1,200 households, totaling $ 66,022.
To be eligible for the refund, you must have participated in one of the following State programs during the period of July 1, 2003 through June 30, 2004: the Homeowners Tax Credit Program, Elderly or Disabled Renters Credit Program, Maryland Energy Assistance Program or the Maryland Weatherization Assistance Program.
The refunds are the greater of $55.00 or the total amount of energy taxes paid from July 2003 to June 2004. Energy bills consist of electric, propane and oil. One refund is allowed per household. Copies of household energy bills must be attached to all applications.
The County received in November a listing of eligible participants and on November 23rd mailed forms and instructions to each eligible participant. Participants are encouraged to file a request for refund by February 8, 2005 to receive a refund check by February 22, 2005.
