Christmas Eve Car Chase

Sheriff's Office Deputy Keith D. Moritz stopped a vehicle being operated by Suspect James Brian Thompson (age 38 years old of Lexington Park) in the area of Point Lookout Road and Great Mills Road. The Suspect was operating a 1980 Chevrolet Corvette and did initial stop. As Officers approached the vehicle the Suspect fled which led to a chase. Suspect Thompson reached speeds that varied from 40 miles per hour to 70 miles per hour. Sheriff's Office Deputies deployed "Stop Sticks" and all four tires on the Suspect's vehicle were flattened but the Suspect continued to flee. While the vehicle was being operated on the rims the Suspect bailed out of the vehicle in a Lexington Park neighborhood and attempted to flee by foot. Officers struggled with the Suspect before he was placed into custody. Sheriff's Office Deputy Sgt. Daniel D. Alioto interviewed and attempted to have the operator perform the roadside tests. The Suspect was arrested and charged with numerous traffic violations to include DWI, Driving While Suspended and Driving While Revoked. Suspect Thompson was also charged with Resisting Arrest.

Suspect Thompson is a repeat offender for prior Driving While Intoxicated Offenses and is currently incarcerated at the St. Mary's County Detention Center awaiting a hearing before the District Court Commissioner.
