St. Mary's County Police Report for December 09-11, 2004

ASSAULT: On 120904 DFC Donald R. Poole was flagged down by a citizen, Steven B. Sandidge of California, MD. Victim Sandidge reported that two adult white males, later identified as Steven M. Stewart and Richard C. Herbert, and a juvenile white male had confronted him, pointed a rifle at him and threatened to shoot him. DFC Poole located the suspects' vehicle and began to follow until sufficient units arrived. DFC Poole then conducted a high risk stop and arrested all three individuals for assault after locating a .22 cal rifle and loaded magazine between the front seats. The two adults were taken to the adult detention center and the juvenile was released to his father.

BARRICADE: On 12-10-04 Dfc. Donald Poole and Dfc. Elizabeth Trossbach attempted to serve a warrant on Joseph Lloyd Welch, 31 years of age from Mechanicsville, Md. When Welch was approached by the deputies he locked himself in the house and refused repeated request of the deputies to come out. Emergency Services Team and Hostage Negotiators responded to assist with the barricaded subject. Negotiators were able to make telephone contact with Welch after several hours. Negotiations were successful and Welch agreed to come out. Welch surrendered without incident to deputes on the scene. Welch was then turned over to Charles County on a warrant for Violation of Probation.

DISTURBANCE: On 12-11-04 at the Sheetz in Great Mills Md. several subjects were involved in a fight. Sgt. Christopher Medved and SDFC Kevin Somerville attempted to break up the fight. Shawn Christopher Henderson became loud and abusive and SDfc Somerville attempted to arrest him. Henderson resisted and punched Sgt. Medved prior to being arrested. During this time Arthur Paul Taylor attempted to free Henderson and pushed Sgt. Medved and he was arrested. During this time a crowd began to form and close in on the deputies and pepper spray was deployed for crowd control. As a result several other arrest were made for Hindering and Disorderly Conduct. Those arrested were Gregory Allen Henderson, Robert Kevin Miles Jr. , Frederick Joseph Dukes, Mindy Kristine Ralls and Carl Alexander Carroll.
