St. Mary's County Police Report for Sept 19, 2004


Sheriff's Office Deputies responded to a 911 call for a reported Strong Arm Robbery at a Mechanicsville establishment. Upon arrival Deputies located a undisclosed female Victim suffering from a back injury. The Victim refused medical attention and gave a description of the Suspect and the vehicle he was operating. The vehicle was discovered at a residence in the Hollywood area and the home was surrounded. Deputies were assisted by a Maryland State Trooper and attempts to contact the occupants yielded negative results. A short time later the Suspect exited the residence and confronted Officers which led to a struggle. Officers were able to place the Suspect in custody by utilizing Sheriff's Office K-9 Roni. As the investigation continued it led to the arrest of the Suspect that was apprehended. Suspect Jason Lawrence Yeattes (25 years old from Hollywood) was charged with possession of cocaine, possession marijuana, two counts of possession of paraphernalia, Strong Arm Robbery, Assault Second Degree, Theft Under $500.00 and Property Destruction. A second subject, a 19 year old female, was detained and later released and could face charges pending a State's Attorney's Office review. The Suspect is currently being held on $15,000.00 bond.

Sheriff's Office Deputy Sgt. Daniel D. Alioto was in an off duty status when he observed several small groups of juveniles in a Lexington Park neighborhood. One group began threatening the other and as Sgt. Alioto attempted to disperse all parties, a 14 year old juvenile continuously shouted profanities at the other group and the Deputy. The Suspect was approached to be placed into custody and he attempted to flee the area. He was apprehended and arrested before being released to his parent pending a hearing before the Juvenile Court.

Dfc. Kevin D. Somerville located Brian Bateman of Mechanicsville and charged him on a Criminal Summons for Second Degree Assault. Suspect Bateman was involved in a physical altercation in front of the Charlotte Hall Food Lion Store on August 22, 2004. He was released pending a Preliminary Hearing before the District Court.

On 09-17-04 SDFC Kevin Somerville served a Criminal Summons on Shellie Jo Cowger for Theft under $500.00. The Suspect stole a Bank of America Check Card from a residence in Mechanicsville, Maryland. The Suspect is released pending a Preliminary Hearing.

Deputy Michael Worrey investigated the Theft of a Lincoln Continental from a residence located in Great Mills, Maryland. The theft occurred between 09-04-04 and 09-17-04. The Victim stated he parked his vehicle in his driveway and when he returned it was gone. The vehicle was recovered and the investigation is ongoing.

On 09-18-04 DFC Gray Maloy arrested Elmer Fernanders for Disorderly Conduct in Charlotte Hall. Suspect Fernanders resisted arrest. Suspect Fernanders was transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center and charged with Disorderly Conduct and Resisting Arrest. Suspect Fernanders was released and shortly thereafter on (09-18-04) SGT. Christopher Medved and SDFC Kevin Somerville responded to a disorderly subject at St. Mary's Hospital. Suspect Fernanders was again arrested and charged with Disorderly Conduct.

On 09-17-04 SDFC Kevin Somerville served a Criminal Summons on Shellie Jo Cowger for Theft under $500.00. The Suspect stole a Bank of America Check Card from a residence in Mechanicsville, Maryland. The Suspect is released pending a Preliminary Hearing.

Sheriff's Office Deputies responded to a 911 call for the reported disturbance with a possible shooting Victim in the St. Inigoes area. Upon arrival Deputies located the Victim and he was suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg. Officers administered aid until the Victim was transported to St. Mary's Hospital to be treated. The Victim and several of his friends indicated to the Officers that the shooting was conducted in "drive by" fashion and provided a vehicle description. As the investigation continued Deputies Richard Russell, Michael Worrey and Jason Maletto continued the search for evidence and located a firearm. Detectives from the bureau of Criminal Investigation responded and took over the investigation.

Deputy Richard W. Russell arrested to juveniles, unrelated, for open retake warrants. Both juveniles were immediately taken before the Juvenile Court for disposition. One juvenile was a 15 year old male and the other was a 15 year old female.

Deputy Angela M. Muller began an investigation into the disappearance of a cellular phone. The phone belonged to Robert Yarber and was stolen during the later part of August 2004. Deputy Muller was able to recover the phone and arrested Rebecca L. Arbogast of Hollywood for theft under $500.00.

Sheriff's Office Deputy Milton Pesante located and arrested Christina Marie Fetty for Failure to Appear for the original charge of theft under $500.00. She is being held on $3,500.00 pre set bond.
