Deadbeat Dad Escapes from Detention Center

On 08/31/04 at approximately 6:30 p.m., Jesse Aaron Garner escaped from the St. Mary's County Detention Center. Garner was serving a 179 day sentence for non-payment of child support. Garner was authorized to participate in the work release program while serving his sentence. Garner had just returned to the Detention Center from his employment when he ran from correctional officers into the adjoining woods. Sheriff's Office and Maryland State Police units responded and established a search perimeter. A Maryland State Police helicopter (Trooper 7) assisted with the search from the air while the Sheriff's Office conducted a canine search on the ground. Search efforts were unsuccessful and Garner is currently wanted by the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office for felony escape. Anyone with information on Garner's whereabouts can contact either the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office at 301-475-8008 or the Crime solvers tip line at 301-475-3333.
