Single Car Accident Claims Driver's Life in Newburg

On August 17 at 5:39 a.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to Pope’s Creek Road, approximately a quarter-mile north of the Potomac River, in Newburg, for the reported motor vehicle crash. Investigation revealed a 1987 Mazda RX7 driven by William Eugene Yuhasz III was traveling southbound on Pope’s Creek Road when the vehicle crossed the center line, struck an embankment on the opposite side of the road and overturned. Yuhasz was ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Yuhasz was not wearing a seatbelt. Speed is believed to be a factor in the crash. Cpl. S. Walsh of the traffic operations unit is continuing the investigation.
