The membership charter for The Rotary Club of Charles County—La Plata, Inc. was proposed on July 21st, 1975 and the 26 charter members celebrated our approval on November 15th, 1975. The formation of our club was made possible through the club efforts of the Rotary Club of St. Mary's (Lexington Park) and the individual efforts of Jesse Starkey, Bill Runyon and Roland Cumberland. Club meetings were held at the Howard Johnson Restaurant on the Corner of Route 6 & 301 where the Sunoco gas station is today, across the street from our current meeting place. Frank Wade Sr., a charter member and an owner of the restaurant, provided buffet breakfast for members every Wednesday morning at 7:30am. Since that time the club has grown to over 50 members and has served its community and community members for over 35 years.
Meetings every Wednesday 7:30 a.m. at the Outback Steakhouse, 6649 Crain Highway, La Plata MD 20646 (Please check our website before visiting the first time to confirm time and location.)
